Hormone Pellets

Effortlessly Balanced Hormones

For many patients, hormone pellets are the preferred hormone replacement therapy. Most patients report feeling significantly more stable on pellets. This is largely because there are not huge fluctuations in hormone levels between medication dosing (which can occur when on oral, transdermal or injection routes). For many patients, it brings a sense of calm and peace to know they have hormones present day and night. They can put their hormone protocol on the back burner and let the pellets do the work. This can free up mental and emotional space for other priorities. Additionally, many folks report getting better results when on pellets. And most people find that they have fewer side effects, such as mood swings or hot flashes, which is also likely due to more stable hormone levels.

Some drawbacks to the pellets is that once the pellets have been implanted, they cannot be removed. Some people may decide they do not like them and unfortunately, those folks just have to wait until they dissolve. Insurance also does not cover this form of hormone replacement therapy, so cost is a big factor for many. For most patients, however, once they go onto pellets, they very rarely switch off them to something else. Most patients feel so much better on them, it’s hard to go back!

The pellets are implanted into the buttock region during a quick office procedure, which is done with local anesthesia. There may be some bruising and soreness to the area for a few days, but recovery is quick for most everyone. New pellets have to be placed every 4-8 months, depending on whether you need estrogen, testosterone or some of both and depending on your own individual clearance of the pellets.
